Code of Conduct Deduction
To help maintain a safe, respectful, and positive environment at cheerNL events, a Code of Conduct Deduction will be in effect beginning at the 2026 Provincial Cheerleading Championships.
A deduction of up to 5 points may be applied to a team’s score if misconduct is displayed by any individual associated with that team, including:
Athletes
Coaches
Parents/guardians
Family members or friends
This rule recognizes that everyone contributes to the competition environment, both on and off the mat.
Where This Applies
The deduction may be enforced for behaviour observed in:
The Family & Friends Viewing Area (located at the front of the event room)
Any competition or event space
Interactions involving officials, volunteers, athletes, or other spectators
Examples of Misconduct
Behaviour that may result in a deduction includes, but is not limited to:
Disrespectful or aggressive behaviour toward officials, volunteers, athletes, or spectators
Disruptive actions that interfere with performances or event operations
Negative or unsportsmanlike conduct, including inappropriate language or gestures
Any behaviour that does not reflect the spirit of sportsmanship expected at cheerNL events
What This Means for Teams
All teams are responsible for ensuring that everyone in their circle—both on and off the floor—understands and follows the Cheer Code.
We strongly encourage coaches and program leaders to:
Share these expectations with families and supporters in advance
Promote positive cheering and respectful behaviour throughout the event
Reinforce that actions in the stands can directly impact competition results
💜 Our Commitment to a Positive Experience
The Code of Conduct Deduction is not about punishment—it’s about protecting the integrity of our sport and ensuring that every athlete can compete in a supportive, respectful environment.
Together, we can make the Provincial Cheerleading Championships a celebration of talent, teamwork, and true sportsmanship.
