COACH REQUIREMENTS
According to Cheer Canada, all coaches must have:
Membership with Cheer Canada, renewed annually
Membership with Provincial Sports Organization (i.e. cheerNL), renewed annually
Valid First Aid & CPR
Enhanced Criminal Record Check within 2 years (coaches 18+)

Please note: courses for all coaches, Level 1, 2, Intermediate & Performance Cheer is required no later than October 2024.

Vulnerable sector check
VSC's are essential in working with athletes as it helps ensure a safe and secure environment, protecting both the athletes and the coaches from potential risks or harm. (Vaild for 3 years).

COACHING THEORY
Coaching theory is crucial as it provides a foundational understanding of coaching principles, techniques, and methodologies, empowering coaches to effectively support and guide individuals towards team goals and personal growth. (Vaild for 3 years).

NCCP Safesport Course
Safesport training in sports is vital as it educates coaches, athletes, and staff on recognizing and preventing abusive behaviors, promoting a culture of safety, respect, and integrity within sports organizations, and safeguarding the well-being of all participants.

NCCP Concussion Training
NCCP "Making Headway" Concussion Training in sports is crucial for coaches and athletes to recognize the signs and symptoms of concussion, take appropriate action to prevent further injury, and ensure the safety and long-term well-being of participants by promoting proper concussion management protocols.

Current First Aid training
First Aid training in sport is essential for coaches and staff to respond promptly and effectively to injuries or medical emergencies, minimizing the risk of complications and providing immediate care to athletes, thereby promoting their safety and well-being during practices. (Cheer Canada requires all coaches to be first aid certified).

Free NCCP Online Training
The following courses are available online free of charge at coach.ca:
Emergency Action Planning | Safe Sport Training | Understanding the Rule of Two
You will need to register for a free account for access. The other required courses (Planning a Practice and Making Ethical Decisions) will be offered by SportNL in the fall. The times are listed on their website. You must register to attend. Please be mindful of course dates, as courses need to be completed by Oct 2024, in order to meet Cheer Canada registration deadline.
